Paul Sather and Barbara Dewey presented on Service-Learning Research as a Feedback Loop for Faculty Development in Service-Learning on October 7, 2007, at the International Research Conference on Service-Learning and Community Engagement in Tampa, Florida.

Donna Dufner, Associate Professor of Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis, will be presenting "Service-learning in Jail: Bridging the Digital Divide" on October 18, 2007, at the Institute for Metropolitan Affairs at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Dufner will discuss her ongoing service-learning project in which students teach computer basics to inmates at the Douglas County jail.

Paul Sather, Director of the Service-Learning Academy, Dr. David Ogden, Associate Professor of Communication, and Arturo Miranda, Cox Graduate Assistant in the Service-Learning Academy, will be presenting at the Association of American Colleges and Universities' Civic Learning at the Intersections conference, October 18-20, 2007, in Denver, Colorado.

This poster session demonstrates how the University of Nebraska at Omaha developed orientation tours to provide students in service-learning courses an opportunity to explore the community, meet community leaders, and challenge myths and misperceptions about the Latino and African-American communities in Omaha. The poster also illustrates how this crucial first step in a service-learning course facilitates the growth and development of of students in a Principles of Public Relations class who have successfully created public relations materials that led to "good news" coverage of several community initiatives and programs.

Dr. Kathe Oleson, American Humanics lead faculty member, and UNO alumnae Elizabeth Riley and Hanna Wanzenried will be presenting "Learning and Serving: 'When You Do It, You Get It,'" a presentation demonstrating the benefits for students and nonprofits of infusing American Humanics nonprofit administration coursework with service-learning pedagogy, at the 2008 American Humanics Management Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. The presentation will include an overview of AH-related service-learning projects, and Riley and Wanzenreid will speak to their transformational experiences in service-learning. The conference will be held January 3-6.
