TODD DAGANAAR

Religious study appeals to me in a way science and mathematics never could.  I also have discovered a new interest in teaching religion. I suppose I had been critical of teaching in the past because I had never been so excited and involved in any topic prior to studying religion.

I would like to pursue my Bachelor of Arts degree in religion at UNO, and if a masters program is available by the time I graduate, I would like to finish my masters degree at UNO as well. Otherwise, I intend to finish my study at either the University of Chicago or the University of Wisconsin. I would like to teach religious studies in a secular environment someday, and to try to give students the same opportunity I had.

I would like to recommend to anyone interested in religion to take at least an introduction to philosophy with Halla Kim, because of the huge impact the overlap can have on religious studies. Also, I have had great luck with Dr. Desmarais and Dr. Stover within the Religion Department.

NIKKI STRAYER

"I am working towards a BA in religion, a BS in education and a minor in Anthropology.

"Why am I a religion major? I want to make a positive difference in the world. People fear what they do not understand and so, as it is my belief that the most direct way one can have a significant impact on the work is through education, it is my goal to teach understanding and diversity in an attempt to spread acceptance.

"After graduating from UNO, I hope to study interpretations of the Hebrew Bible, focusing on how individual interpretations of text and doctrine affect individual realities. I hope to teach at the high school and university level and one day become involved in religious conflict resolution.

"My favourite classes are the ones in which I get to argue."
