

Community Involvement
The school psychology program at UNO values practical experiences through course-required community- based service learning, as well as clinic and school based practica.
PSYC 8590: Psychology of Exceptional Children
In the second semester of the first year in the program, school psychology graduate students develop an academic or behavioral intervention for an elementary student at Holy Name Elementary School.
PSYC 8576: Behavior Analysis and Intervention
A more recently developed community relationship is the collaboration with the Great Plains Girl Scouts to research and/or develop a curriculum that Girl Scouts staff members can use to address the social/emotional/behavioral learning needs of girls participating in their outreach program.
PSYC 9780: Advanced Educational and Psychological Consultation
Students in this class collaborate with UNO education students pursuing their master’s teaching credit in special education. Students will work as consultants to these teacher education students who are enrolled in a practicum course with the UNO Learning Disabilities Clinic (SPED 8960).
PSYC 8970: Masters Level Practicum in School Psychology
In this year-long clinical practicum-based course, students will be working with children with academic difficulties and their families in an outpatient psychology clinic at the Munroe Meyer Institute located at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
PSYC 8530: Early Childhood Assessment
Students in this course will participate in an RtI Service Learning experience. Students will be assigned one or more of four sites to collect play assessment screening data in a Pre Kindergarten setting. Students will also develop a behavioral or play intervention for a child.
PSYC 9970: Ed.S. Level Practicum in School Psychology
Students enrolled in the school based practicum are assigned to a supervisor who is a working school psychologist in a local public school district. The purpose of the Ed.S. Level Practicum is for students to integrate and apply their knowledge and skills to the delivery of School Psychology services. Students in this course participate in activities that prepare them for their internship.
