Undergraduate Program

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees with a Major in Political Science are offered by the department of political science. Both degree programs are flexible and are designed to meet a wide variety of student needs and interests Studentsmay be obtained either degree program with or without a concentration. Whatever the case, each student's program must be carefully planned with a departmental adviser to meet his/her needs and interests.

 

Bachelor of Arts

Minimum Hours: 27 semester Hours in Political Science

Subfield Requirements: One course from each of the following: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, Political Theory.

Upper Division Hours: At least 18 hours of Political Science courses at the 3000 or 4000 levels.

Cognate Hours: 12 semester hours from cognate fields chosen in consultation with department advisor.

Other Requirements: Satisfaction of the foreign language requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences.

 

Bachelor of Science

Minimum Hours: 36 semester Hours in Political Science

Subfield Requirements: One course from each of the following: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, Political Theory.

Upper Division Hours: At least 18 hours of Political Science courses at the 3000 or 4000 levels.

Cognate Hours: 15 semester hours from cognate courses. These hours must include 3 hours of statistics approved by the departmental advisors

 

Concentrations

Students may pursue concentrations in Government Affairs and Civic Engagement, Foreign and National Security Affairs, Law and the courts, Political Theory, and Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Politics. The requirements of each are as follows:

Government Affairs and Civic Engagement

Students must complete 12 credit hours from the following: PSCI 2110, 2120, 3010, 3020, 3040, 3050, 3160, 3170, 3180, 4020, 4030, 4040, 4050, 4120.

Foreign and National Security Affairs

Students must complete 12 credit hours from the following: 2560, 2660, 3220, 3230, 3260, 3500, 3560, 3580, 3640, 3660, 3680, 3700, 4200, 4280, 4350, 4360, 4370, 4500, 4520.

Law and the Courts

Students must complete 12 credit hours from among the following: 2180, 4050, 4170, 4180, 4190.

Political Theory

Students must complete 12 credit hours from among the following: 3340, 4000, 4310, 4320, 4330, 4340, 4380.

Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Politics

Students must complete 12 credit hours from among the following: 3100, 3120, 3130, 3140, 3150, 3230.

 

Minor in Political Science

An undergraduate minor in political science may be secured by completing 18 hours of political science, 12 of which must be at the 3000 to 4000 level.
