Dr. Petrow joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2005 after receiving his Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Before joining UNO he taught at Carolina, as well as North Carolina State University, Duke University, and Elon University.  He grew up in California and received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley.  His teaching interests are in political behavior, methodology, and American government.

 


Courses Taught:

He teaches PSCI 2000, Introduction to Political Inquiry, required of all majors.
He also teaches courses in American politics and political behavior, including:
PSCI 1100 Introduction to American National Government
PSCI 4000 Concepts of Political Behavior 
PSCI 4120 Public Opinion and Voting Behavior
PSCI 8000 Research Methods in Political Science
PSCI 8040 Seminar in American Government and Politics

 

Current Research:

Dr. Petrow currently pursues three major research interests:  the impact of group identity on political participation, the role of political values and self-interest in effecting policy preferences, and the influence of political tolerance on evaluations of political candidates from non-traditional groups.  He has published articles in Presidential Studies Quarterly and the Journal of Homosexuality
