"Emory University's Office of University-Community Partnerships seeks a Research Specialist who will work on issues affecting urban communities.
Working closely with OUCP senior staff as well as a variety of Emory faculty, staff, students, and community partners, the Research Specialist will play a key role in the varied research activities of the office. Duties will include conducting literature searches and best practices research; drafting surveys, moderators' guides, and other data collection instruments; securing IRB approval for research; managing focus group logistics (including participant recruitment); conducting surveys and structured interviews; acquiring, entering, and geocoding data; assisting with statistical and GIS analyses; drafting of letters, reports, and memos; and participating in the recruitment and selection of OUCP fellows. The Research Specialist will report to the OUCP's Director of Research and Evaluation.

The position requires a BA in political science, sociology, economics, geography, or an advanced degree in a related field (e.g., public policy, community development, urban planning, public health or related discipline).

Qualified candidates will possess a strong background in social science research, including familiarity with SPSS, Stata, or other statistical software. Experience with GIS software (especially Maptitude or ArcGIS) is very desirable. Also desirable is proficiency in one of the languages of Atlanta's growing immigrant community (especially Spanish). Interest in issues affecting urban communities such as economic development (microenterprise programs), housing and community development (e.g., affordable housing strategies, HOPE VI revitalization, gentrification, neighborhood revitalization strategies, and comprehensive community initiatives) and social policy (especially in areas relating to elementary and secondary education, welfare, and children and family well-being) is also important.

The successful candidate must have proven leadership and management skills; strong writing, presentation and facilitation skills; excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills; a strong work ethic; the ability to work well in a collaborative, team environment; and proficiency in the use of technology in all facets of work.
