The general prerequisite for admission to the MS PSCI program is a four-year bachelors' degree, typically with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA of the junior-senior year (last 50-60 credit hours). Alternatively, the GPA may be calculated only for political science, or political science-related, classes. Under extenuating circumstances an average below 3.0 will be considered. The following factors will be considered in determination of a student's admission status:

        • 15 undergraduate hours in political science
        • PSCI 2000 - Introduction to Political Inquiry or undergraduate equivalent
        • 3.0 GPA
        • Two letters of recommendation
        • Two official copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
        • International students from countries where English is not the official language need to submit the results of their TOEFL exam.

Completing the application process is straightforward. Each of these important steps are outlined below. Links to all required forms for supporting information are provided. Once your application file is complete, it will be reviewed by the Graduate Program Chair (GPC). You will be notified as soon as possible about admission. Please feel free to contact the GPC if you have any questions.

The following materials go directly to UNO's Office of Graduate Studies:

      • Graduate Application. There is a nonrefundable admissions fee of $45. Applications may be downloaded or completed online.
      • Two official transcripts from each college or university attended. Hand carried or student submitted credentials will not be accepted. Questions about transcripts should be directed to the Graduate Studies Office.
      • International students from countries where English is not the official language need to submit the results of their TOEFL exam.
