Dr. Bykerk received her Ph. D. from Columbia University. 
She is the faculty advisor for Pi Gamma Mu, the international social science honorary society.  Her insights on local, state, and national politics frequently appear in the local and national media.

In 1997 Dr. Bykerk received the Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award in the Social Sciences.

Current Research:

Dr. Bykerk's research focuses on interest groups and public policy.  Her research includes working on an analysis of Congressional policy regarding private pension funds and lobbying and Congressional action on stem cell research.
