Glacier Creek & T.L. Davis Preserves

Mission

Glacier Creek Preserve (formerly Allwine Prairie Preserve) and T.L. Davis Prairie are managed by the Biology Department to preserve and restore portions of Eastern Nebraska's natural heritage and serve as research and education sites for the University and the surrounding community.

 

Conservation

The preserves consist of remnant and restored tallgrass prairie, oak woodland, prairie-wetland, and stream habitat and serve to protect the biological diversity of these disappearing resources. Education & Outreach

The preserves serve as outdoor classrooms for students and faculty at UNO and are open to use by educational institutions at all levels (preschool-graduate school). Unique research facilities and opportunities for faculty and students at UNO and other educational institutions are available at the preserves. What's Happening

>>May 17, 2013: Thanks to the efforts of numerous volunteers, we were able to conduct our first prescribed burn at T.L. Davis Preserve. Learn about our Prescribed Burns here.

>>May 15, 2013: Renovations are nearly complete on our new Education and Research Facility at Glacier Creek Preserve. Learn more about The Barn here.

>>May 1, 2013: We hope to add 76 acres to the north boundary of Glacier Creek Preserve within the next few months. Acquiring this property is critical to maintain the "viewshed" of the prairie from surrounding development. More information about the Glacier Creek Project can be found here. >>Dec. 20, 2013: Allwine Prairie is renamed "Glacier Creek Preserve" to encompass land recently acquired adjacent to the original preserve. Learn more on the Glacier Creek Preserve page.
