His dissertation defends the claim that there cannot be moral reasons unless there are general moral principles (against particularist opponents who claim that the existence of moral reasons does not depend on general principles). His main philosophical interest is metaethics, especially normativity - including both the nature of reasons for action (practical reasons) and reasons for belief (epistemic reasons).
