Platonic Society Activities 1. Weekly Slow Reading
2. Musical Soiree
3. Peer Editing Sessions We can get together and cooperate on our philosophical projects by way of discussing, reviewing and commenting on each other's work. In fact we encourage our members to send our works to existing journals or student colloquium. Among the undergraduate student conferences we recommend are: 4.Members' works to journals or contests, including the following: Aporia, A Student Journal of Philosophy, Brigham Young Univesity Reveries, Contact: Philosophy Department Sonoma State University. 707-824-4808. Auslegung, A journal of philosophy for graduate students, Contact: Peter Montecuollo, editor, Department of Philosophy, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS 66045 Essay contest for The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics, The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity. Contact: 212-490-7777. 5. "Show and Tell" We don't have to present our views in a formal setting. When we have interesting ideas or thought-provoking stories or mind-boggling puzzles to share, we can convene a meeting and show them to others. It is that easy. 6. Undergraduate Philosophy Colloquia, Workshops, Symposia More formally, we can organize a session dedicated to a presentation and discussion of a highly philosophical papers. It may take the form of a straightforward presentation, followed by a question and answer period. Or we can have a commentator comment our paper after the presentation in the form of a workshop. Alternatively, we may form a panel discussion or organize a symposium where multiply presentors may give opinions on certain selected topics. 7. Discussions with Professional Philosophers We may arrange a meeting with visiting philosophers for in-depth conversations with them. 8. The UNO Platonic Society Journal If time permits we plan to publish a yearly journal dedicated to recognizing outstanding work in undergraduate philosophy. The journal can publish research articles, humor, comic strips, songs, and short stories that are relevant to philosophy.
