Membership in the Platonic Society at UNO

Welcome to Platonic Society, the UNO undergraduate philosophy club! Our mission is to encourage discussion and exchange of philosophical ideas, topics, jokes, songs, images and even cartoons.

It is easy to be a member of the club. Even though most of the members had their first taste of philosophy when they took a course in philosophy, you don't even have to be a philosophy major or minor. All it takes is an active interest in philosophy. Don't know what philosophy is all about? Don't worry! Philosophers themselves are not sure exactly what it is that they are doing under the rubric 'philosophy!' Indeed there is even a field within philosophy that studies just what philosophy is all about and it is called 'metaphilosophy.' You give us your email and we will keep you posted about our meetings and other activities.

Among the activities that we regularly do or plan to do in the near future are:

  • Weekly Slow Reading
  • Undergraduate philosophy colloquia and workshops
  • Meeting with professional philosophers and guest lecturers
  • Musical soiree - we can mix philosophy with music and, of course, food!
