Next Generation Leadership Scholarship (NGLS)

Second to Final Year Student Application

The Next Generation Leadership Scholarship Program, funded by the Mammel Foundation, is established to recognize the leadership potential, community engagement commitments and academic achievements of students already enrolled in a course of study at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  The scholarship is designed for graduates of Omaha, Ralston, Papillion-La Vista, and Bellevue Public Schools who show promise as leaders in the continued development of the city of Omaha.

Up to ten (10) Next Generation Leadership scholarships may be awarded to current UNO students on an annual basis.  Each scholarship may be awarded up to the amount of $2,000.00.

Application Requirements:

1. Applicants must be admitted to one of the following University of Nebraska at Omaha colleges: Arts and Sciences; Communication, Fine Arts and Media; Education; or Public Affairs and Community Service.

2. Applicants must be continuing full-time students of sophomore status or higher with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

3. Applicants must submit:

a) A completed Next Generation Leadership Scholarship online application.

b) An official UNO transcript.

c) Two letters of recommendation: one must be from one of your UNO professors who can speak to your academic performance and potential. The second must be from a community organization director or supervisor where you volunteer. Letters of recommendation must provide information about:

1. Relationship of the recommender to the applicant
2. Applicant’s leadership skills and academic potential
3. Evidence of the applicant’s commitment to serving the Omaha community
4. Ways in which the student would benefit from this award


Scholarships are renewable based on the following criteria:

1. Maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
2. A documented record of leadership and community engagement
3. Submitting a full on-line application, transcripts and letters of recommendation

The Next Generation Leadership Scholarship is open to all qualified applicants. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of under-represented groups and strongly encourage women and persons of color to apply.

3. On the second page, sign, date and then click "Submit" on the bottom of the page. You will be directed to the third and final page.

4. If you are not ready to submit your application, and wish to save it to review and submit later, go to the bottom of the third page, and click "Edit your Response" (See IMAGE ONE below).

5. After you click "Edit your Response" on PAGE THREE, you will be re-directed to your saved application. As IMAGE TWO shows, in order to save all your information and edit and submit it at a later time, you MUST either copy and paste the URL and save it in a safe place, or bookmark the page as shown below.


6. You have until midnight on Friday, April 29 to submit your online application. You will not be able to view or make changes to your application after this time.
