hello everybody

the first oaa meeting of the year will be held on wednesday, september 9th at 12:30pm

it will either be in the gallery or the painting studio depending on what's going on in the gallery that day

this is a very important meeting as it will ultimately decide the fate of all mankind

we will also be electing officers

the positions that are open are: President, Vice-President, Treasurer(The Keeper of Treasure), and Secretary(The Keeper of Secrets)

if you are interested in any of these positions, be sure to be at this meeting

of course bring your ideas for the 2009-2010 year activities

the more people that come the better, so bring all your art friends and tell them to sign up for the email list on the website

Welcome back...hope everyone had a good break

December 15, 2008

so the faux show was awesome and i hope everyone had a great time like i did

the show was a huge success...we had over 60 artists submit work for a total of more than 160 pieces of work on display (that's a lot)

throughout the night we had 763 people show up...which is over 100 more people than last year's show, the snip show.

TONS of people to thank (in no particular order):

so a huge thank you to all of you who submitted work and came out to the show with your friends and family...

and another huge thank you to all the awesome people who helped put on the show...you guys all put in a ton of time and effort and it was definitely worth it.

aaaand another huge thanks to the UNO's writer's workshop group The Crop for providing some wonderful poetry as well as to the 2 bands that played: Honey and Darling -and- Brimstone Howl

thanks to all the faculty and other instructors for promoting the show in their classes and encouraging people to enter work

and of course yet another huge thank you to rachel ziegler and the bemis underground for letting us use their space and giving us their support

and finally a huge thanks to all of the people and places who donated money, food, and drinks (in no particular order):
Upstream Brewery
Omaha Chocolate Company
Straka Brothers Meat Market
Petit's Pastries
Salon Aura
Josh Powell (He donated an entire keg)
Brad's Grandparents
Great Harvest Bread
Mama's Pizza
Everyone who made cupcakes and cookies and/or brought other food items
and everyone who donated money in the donation jars so we can do this again next year

speaking of next year, this kind of show wouldn't be possible without active members in oaa to carry it out...so anyone who had a good time at the show and wants to be a part of the most super sweet awesome student art club ever should come to the meetings..

meetings are held every wednesday at 12:30 usually in the art gallery, but sometimes in the painting studio

we will be having our last meeting of 2008 this wednesday the 17th...if you can't make it to the meeting this wednesday, meetings will resume in 2009 when school starts back up in january...

thanks again to everyone...if i don't see you this week have a good winter break

First, I would like to thank everyone for their great input on the show name.

I got a ton of responses back and by an opinion of 13 to 2, this year's oaa student show will be officially titled "The Faux Show"

The Faux Show will take place on December 12, 2008 at the Bemis Underground

more information about specifics such as the time and dates for dropping off work for the show will be announced shortly

remember to bring your designs for a show logo to the meeting on wednesday

for the logo, keep in mind that it must be adaptable to various things such as posters, buttons, t-shirts, etc...

the next weeks are going to be very busy for oaa, so we need as many members to come to the meetings and to participate via email as possible.

see you all on wednesday at 12:30 in the gallery.

Hello everyone...

Here are some updates for everyone about what's been happening with oaa over the past few weeks:

1) We have elected officials for the 2008-2009 year.
President: Ryan Carroll
Vice-President: Angela Drakeford
Secretary: Anna Keenan
Treasurer: Megan Drakeford

2) We will begin planning on the oaa fall student exhibition in the upcoming weeks.

3) At the last meeting we have come to the conclusion that we need more members. By the end of the Spring semester, 75-80% of oaa will have graduated...that's bad for oaa...

So, we are trying to figure out how to get more people actively involved. Several people have mentioned to me that they want to come to the meetings and participate, but their schedules don't work out. So...what we want to do is find out if there is a more convenient time of day for oaa to meet other than wednesday at noon...

If you are interested in being part of the single most awesome art organization on earth, please respond to this email with some suggestions on better times to meet...(must be before 1pm if on any other day than monday or wednesday)

ALSO, ask your fellow art students who may not be aware of oaa to email with suggestions so we can harvest their email addresses and get them on the mailing list.

and of course if you are super busy and there is no possible way for you to make it to the meetings but would still like to be involved, keep in contact via email or come talk to me (Ryan) in room 107 mon, wed 1-3pm or tues, thurs, fri 10am-noon -OR- talk to Kara or Angela or Megan in the Gallery... -OR- any other member for that matter...

4) we have a super awesome website at http://www.unomaha.edu/oaa email or tell me if you would like me to add any announcements to the page

5) Finally, we want to have a welcome back to school BBQ...look for more info on that shortly

I look forward to hearing from ALL of you and ALL of the people you come into contact with...

Alright everyone....

OAA's Spring Show opens this Saturday at Caffeine Dreams, reception from 9pm-midnight. The show will stay up for 2 wks, there is a 5$ entry fee per artist, you can enter up to 4 pieces framed or ready to hang canvas. (NO BINDER CLIPS)

Work can be dropped off today, tomorrow or Friday by 4:00pm - entry forms are in the painting studio by the couch, leave your work there with a tag (artist name, title, price) attached securely and take your completed entry form and $5 up to Susan/me (3rd floor secretary).

If anyone wants to lend a hand we could use help with hanging on Friday night at 11PM and at the show (drinks, id checkers, etc) from 9-midnight. Let me know if you're interested in helping out!

Thanks, Kara

Hello everyone,

We rescheduled the valentine making party for this Sunday at 11:00am, anyone is more than welcome to come to the UNO printmaking studio. We will be selling our creations in the Student Center on Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th from 11:00-2:00.

On Thursday night Bemis is hosting an Art Talk by Artists-in-Residence Claudia Borgna & Ben Butlerat at 7:00pm, 11th and Leavenworth.

Also there's an opening at the Espana Art Gallery on this Thursday before LOOM, 7-10pm featuring the work of 13 local artists/designers including our friends Joey Lynch and Josh Powell.

We are still looking around for ideas and venues for a spring oaa show, let me know if you have any ideas!

Thanks,

Kara

Ok everybody,

Here's a rough outline of OAA's ideas for the semester:

First we're definitely selling handmade Valentine's in the student center on the 13th and 14th of February. The making of these Valentine's will take place on Sunday, February 3rd from 12:00-5ish. Ryan and Jaime had some great ideas yesterday for romantic images involving locusts and corn, I think I'm gonna do a lino-cut of flaming organs, just to give you an idea of where we're going. Feel free to come up with ideas of your own and join in on the magic. More on this next week.

A trip to Chicago will be taking place over spring break, probably a 3 day trip over one of the weekends.

A fundraiser of some sort should take place in early march and will be entitled "The Whale Oil Magazine Expo" (WOME). We don't know what the fundraiser will be. Ideas?

And of course a big old show of student art will take place probably in late April. No plans for this yet either.

Friday is the Student Show opening reception from 6:30-8:30 in the UNO gallery. We will definitely go out afterwards for drinks at some point somewhere. See ya,

kara
