Spanish Brass in Concert at UNO Nov. 24

Omaha - Spanish Brass, the world-renowned brass ensemble, will perform on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Sunday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center.

The concert, sponsored by College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media enrichment fees, is open to the general public and UNO students, faculy and staff.

Tickets are $15 for the general public and $5 for students and seniors. UNO students, faculty and staff can be admitted for free by showing their MavCard. Tickets can be purchased via Ticket Omaha at www.ticketomaha.com/productions/Spanish-Brass.

The concert will feature an exciting evening of music by composers such as Bach, Verdi and Ellington. Listeners will also hear a number of Latin and Spanish tunes that are sure to catch their attention.

Spanish Brass was created in 1989 by five Spanish musicians and quickly gained attention for its innovation, memorable performances, educational activities and creative collaborations.

After winning first prize at the 1996 Narbonne, France International Brass Quintet Competition, the most prestigious event of its kind in the world, trumpeter Bernard Soustrot said, “Of all the first prize winners of the Narbonne competition, the Spanish Brass is the best since the competition was founded in 1986.”

With its versatile programming and state-of-the-art staging, Spanish Brass has created shows such as Concierto del desconcierto (A Disconcerting Concert), Metàl•lics (educational concert), Brassiana (with jazz trio) and Make a Brazz Noise Here (a tribute to Frank Zappa). The group has recorded 14 CDs, including the double CD The Best of the Spanish Brass.
