UNO to Host High School Calculus Bee, Calculus Musical Events
Omaha - Over 500 high school students from around the metro will be on hand to showcase their mathematical knowledge during the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) first Calculus Bee designed specifically for non-university students.
On Friday, April 12, two concurrent competitions will take place on the UNO campus with live, head-to-head competitions being held to determine an overall winner.
Each contest will feature 24 participants, selected from the over 500 students who performed best on a first-round test currently being handed out in schools across the metro. Each participating school will have at least one competitor at one of the live contests held on the UNO campus.
The contests begin at 11:30 a.m. and will run until approximately 12:45 p.m. in UNO’s Arts and Sciences Hall and College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) building.
UNO has held similar Calculus Bee events in the past, but they have only been for UNO students.
UNO’s Calculus Bee is held in conjunction with this year’s performance of “Calculus: The Musical,” a comedic musical performance about math. “Calculus: The Musical” is a traveling show put on by MATHEATER, part of the Know Theatre of Cincinnati.
There will be three showings of “Calculus: The Musical” at UNO, both held in CPACS Room 101. The show times are 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each showing should last approximately one hour.
Registration for the Calculus Bee is closed, but media are encouraged to attend the event. "Calculus: The Musical" is open to UNO students, faculty and staff.
For tickets to “Calculus: The Musical,” contact UNO’s Office of Dual Enrollment at 402.554.3810. Tickets must be reserved by Thursday, April 11.
