Symphonic Wind Ensemble to Host Fundraising Concert, Auction April 7
Omaha - After being chosen to perform at a prestigious international music festival in Switzerland this July, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE) will host fundraiser on Sunday, April 7 to help raise money for their trip.
Students from UNO will join six other groups from around the world as participants in this year’s "Jungfrau Music Festival" in Interlaken, Switzerland. Other countries represented at the festival include Indonesia, Japan and Canada.
The April 7 fundraiser will consist of a silent auction and raffle followed by a performance by UNO’s SWE.
From noon to 3 p.m., the silent auction and raffle will be held in the foyer of the Strauss Performing Arts Center (SPAC).
Items in the silent auction include tickets to the Omaha Symphony, passes to the Joslyn Art Museum, custom photography packages and more. Raffle items include a hand-produced quilt, two sets of tickets to the PGA Senior Tour, outdoor furniture and a gourmet dinner for four, just to name a few.
Following the auction and raffle, the UNO SWE will perform. Pieces will include “Symphonic Dances from ‘West Side Story’” by Leonard Bernstein, “Carmina Burana” from Carl Orff, and the Welsh folk song “Suo Gan” as rearranged by James Curnow.
There will also be a special performance of “Ellensong” from James Mobberly featuring a horn performance from Dan Kitchens, a graduate of Texas Christian University and Oxford University.
The cost to attend the performance is free; however, donations are encouraged.
A complimentary reception at the Milo Bail Student Center will follow the concert.
