UNO Brings Local, Regional Startups at Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference
Omaha - The creative minds behind eCreamery, Battle Bears, Complete Nutrition and many other successful start-up companies will be on hand for the Second Annual Midwest Entrepreneurship Conference (MWEC), sponsored by several organizations within the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) College of Business Administration (CBA).
The MWEC will be held at the KANEKO, 1111 Jones St., on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6. The event is organized by UNO’s Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) and Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Franchising (CIEF).
KANEKO has been the site of similar conferences, including the popular Big Omaha Conference. Since 2009, UNO has partnered with KANEKO for the KANEKO-UNO Library, which is part of the larger KANEKO creative facility downtown.
MWEC, which is student-run, is designed to inform, support and inspire college students to be entrepreneurial, drive innovation and seek opportunity through enterprise creation. Over 200 students and young professionals from all over the region will be attending this year’s conference.
Speakers at the MWEC include a who’s who of highly successful entrepreneurs, many of who have built national businesses with headquarters in Omaha. Names include David Simnick from SoapBox Soaps; Abby Jordan and Becky App from eCreamery Ice Cream and Gelato; Jeet Banerjee from Stat Fuse; James Hilton from Jacox-Hilton; Ben Vu from SkyVu Entertainment and Battle Bears; Ash Kmura from Dream it Alive; Sheldon Harris from Complete Nutrition; and Rob Nicholson from The Nicholson Center.
A business idea pitch competition will also be held at the conference, as well as other social activities and opportunities for mentoring and networking.
