UNO Public Relations Team Named Nation's Best
Omaha - MaverickPR, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) was named best in the nation for the second time in four years at the national PRSSA conference in San Francisco.
UNO's MaverickPR was awarded the 2012 F. H. Teahan Outstanding Overall Chapter award, besting 383 other chapters from across the country and overseas. MaverickPR also received the award in 2009.
A group of ten students, along with the group's advisor, Karen Weber, who is also a lecturer for the School of Communication, represented UNO at the competition, which concludes today, Tuesday, Oct. 16. Maverick PR is sponsored by the School of Communication in the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media.
"Our students and faculty work so hard, and this is recognition of their efforts at the highest level," said Jeremy Lipschultz, director of the School of Communication.
MaverickPR was also chosen to host a regional PRSSA competition in 2013 as part of the national conference proceedings. Phil Gomes, senior vice president of Edelman Digital in Chicago is already confirmed as a guest for the event.
The UNO and Omaha communities will have a chance to congratulate MaverickPR on Friday, Oct. 19 as part of the group's annual 'La Notte Italiana' benefit dinner, which raises money to cover fees and travel expenses for events like this week's national conference.
Advance tickets cost $20 for adults, $12 for students and $5 for children under 12. They may be purchased or reserved through Karen Weber, PRSSA faculty adviser, at 402.554.2246 or email@example.com through Wednesday, Oct. 17. Tickets at the door cost $25 for adults and $15 for students.
MaverickPR offers students interested in public relations opportunities in professional development and community and university service. One of the most active student organizations on campus, the UNO Student Organizations Leadership and Programming (SOLP) named PRSSA its Outstanding Student Organization in 2010-2011. UNO PRSSA also earned the National PRSSA Award for Outstanding University Service in 2010.
