Writing Center to Host Interactive Open House

Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha Writing Center is holding an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Arts and Sciences Hall Room 150 to coincide with this year’s National Day on Writing.

The Writing Center is inviting students, faculty, staff and those with general questions to the event, which will include food and activities for people to participate in.

One activity is a “round robin” story in which each participant will contribute a few lines to a larger story that will be posted on the Writing Center’s Facebook page and submitted to the National Gallery of Writing, a digital archive that showcases compositions from writers of all ages and talents from across the country. Those not wanting to participate can use the time as a chance to see first-hand the options that the Writing Center has to offer.

Throughout the year, the UNO Writing Center offers one-on-one consultations for students, faculty and staff. With three locations, including Arts and Science Hall 150, Mammel Hall 131 and Criss Library, and a staff of over a dozen writing consultants, the Writing Center is able to help answer questions, provide feedback and coach clients through any stage of the writing process.

The National Day on Writing was established in 2009 by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) to celebrate composition in all forms and demonstrate how writing is a vital part of our everyday lives. From students and educators to business owners and retirees, writers from all walks of life have submitted works to the National Gallery of Writing.
