Forensics Team Wins Season Opener

Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) nationally ranked forensics team continued its winning ways to start the 2012-2013 season, earning first place at a competition hosted by Kansas’s Hutchinson Community College (HCC).

The forensics team, led by head coach Abbie Syrek, competed against 20 colleges and universities from Friday, Sept. 28 to Sunday, Sept. 30.

In addition to individual victories by Sophomore Karlee Curin in After-Dinner Speaking; Junior Cole Evans in Dramatic Interpretation; Junior Queeny Pimentel in Poetry; Evans in Individual Sweepstakes both days; Evans and Junior Trae Graham in Duo; Sophomore Natalie Schneider in Extemporary Speaking; Senior Lauren Ackerman in Program Oral Interpretation; and Graham in Poetry, the team placed first in the team sweepstakes for both days, as well as the entire competition.

Evans was also recognized as top-speaker for the weekend, winning the Overall Individual Sweepstakes.

Forensics competes once again starting Saturday, Oct. 6 at Bethel College for the annual Sunflower Swing. Those interested can follow live results on Twitter at @UNOforensics.
