UNO Names New Director of Marketing
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) announced today the appointment of Erin Owen as director of the new office of Marketing. The appointment of Owen is effective Sept. 17. In her new role, Owen will lead a comprehensive strategic marketing effort to support the university’s enrollment goals as it moves toward 20,000 students by the year 2020.
Owen will report to the office of Enrollment Management and Marketing (EMM) led by Associate Vice Chancellor Pelema Morrice. Her duties will include providing strategic and creative direction for UNO’s brand and image. She will also oversee the development of advertising and marketing materials. The office will also coordinate internal communications for the campus.
“As UNO moves forward, it is critical that we develop and implement a strategic plan that is designed to distinguish the campus in an extremely competitive environment,” Morrice said. “Erin brings broad national experience, creativity and energy to this role. She understands UNO and is passionate about our mission.”
Owen currently serves as director of communications for UNO Graduate Studies. She also has two decades of experience in developing and implementing communications plans for internal and external audiences. She has held positions with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Omaha Home for Boys, NorthStar Foundation and Outward Bound Omaha and the United States Senate in Sen. Bob Kerrey’s office. An accomplished photographer, Owen’s work has been exhibited at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Photo credits include People Magazine Yearbook, the Associated Press and the Washington Post Magazine. Owen is also a member of the Joslyn Castle Trust and the Omaha Children’s Museum Guild. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Communication from the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas.
“I am honored to expand my role at UNO and serve as the Director of Marketing. What is happening at UNO is very exciting, and I love being a part of the team dedicated to academic excellence and community involvement,” Owen said. “As we strive for 20,000 students by 2020, I look forward to sharing the wonderful story of UNO to potential students, current students, alumni and the private sector.”
To provide strategic support to the new Marketing Department, UNO has created a Marketing Advisory Board. This board will be comprised of key local and national experts in marketing and communications who will serve a crucial role in UNO’s future success.
