Welcome Week 2012 Brings Days, Nights of Entertainment to UNO Campus

Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) first week of the fall semester will be full of free food, live music, outdoor activities and more as part of Welcome Week 2012.

Presented by UNO’s Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC), Welcome Week runs from Monday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 26 and is open to all new students, returning students, faculty and staff at UNO. The week is an annual tradition that has grown to include both daytime and nighttime activities.

Last year, an estimated 12,000 students, faculty and staff participated in the week-long celebration.

Highlights this year include a “Dust Off Your Bike” event sponsored by UNO Bikes! that gives free bike tune-ups, a UNO Athletics pep rally to introduce this year’s sports teams, a carnival held in the Scott housing complex on the Pacific Street Campus and HPER After Dark, a Midnight Mojo event that opens UNO’s Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building for nighttime activities.

Monday, Aug. 20
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Free chair massages in the MBSC Fireplace Lounge (sponsored by UNO Campus Recreation)
• 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. – “Dust Off Your Bike” (sponsored by UNO Bikes!)
• 11:30 to 1 p.m. – Student Affairs and Services displays
• Lunch at 11:30 – Mavwiches
• Noon – Live music (Screaming for Silence)
• 6 to 9 p.m. – Block party at Maverick Village Courtyard (live music, food, games)

Tuesday, Aug. 21
• 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Academic department displays and UNO Athletics O-Zone sign up
• Lunch at 11:30 – Teriyaki chicken sandwiches (sponsored by MBSC)
• Noon – Live music (Lemon Fresh Day)
• 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. – Athletics pep rally at Sapp Fieldhouse
• 6 to 8 p.m. – Business fair at HPER with free pizza sponsored by Godfather’s Pizza

Wednesday, Aug. 22
• Lunch at 11:30 – Walking Tacos (sponsored by MBSC)
• Noon – Live Music (Funk Trek)
• 6 to 9 p.m. – Carnival at Scott Housing area featuring a BBQ dinner sponsored by the Scott Café and music

Thursday, Aug. 23
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Free chair massages in the MBSC Fireplace Lounge (sponsored by UNO Campus Recreation)
• 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Clubs and Organizations Fair
• Lunch at 11:30 – Hot dogs (sponsored by Student Organizations and Leadership Programs)
• Noon – Live Music (DJ Animale)
• 8:30 p.m. – Movie night featuring "Space Jam" and free popcorn provided by ConAgra (movie sponsored by the UNO Alumni Association, screen sponsored by UNO Student Government)

Friday, Aug. 24
• Noon – Freshman Convocation in the Fieldhouse with post-reception lunch in the MBSC Ballroom and an ECUNO table outside the Food Court with information about ways to be more eco-friendly
• 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. – HPER After Dark, featuring swimming, rock climbing, Zumba, lazer tag, golf, karate, a hot tub, and more. Must bring your MavCard for entry.

Sunday, Aug. 26
• Noon – UNO women’s soccer takes on Utah State at the UNO Soccer Field by Chili Greens
• 5 p.m. – UNO men’s soccer takes on Bellevue at the UNO Soccer Field by Chili Greens
