UNO Names Shipp Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) announced today that Daniel Shipp has accepted the position of associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs. This is UNO's chief student affairs leadership position. Shipp begins at UNO in August prior to the start of the 2012-13 academic year.
Shipp has worked at the University of the Pacific since 2006, first as assistant vice president for Student Life and, since 2011, as associate vice president for Student Life. Prior to arriving at the University of the Pacific, he served ten years as senior associate director of Recreation Services and Facilities at the University of Missouri. From 1993, through 1996, Shipp worked at UNO as assistant director of Campus recreation Services and Facilities. He earned his master’s degree in recreation administration from UNO in 1993.
“UNO has grown tremendously since I was there,” Shipp said. “The addition of Student Housing, expanded student services and the depth of student service learning opportunities have a made a great university even better. I’m very excited to start."
Shipp has a track record of innovation and collaboration. He created and launched the University of Pacific’s Pacific One Word Project in 2008. It provides first year students a common point of personal reflection that helps them express their level of self-awareness and connect to future aspirations. He created and led Pacific’s Mountains, Ocean, Valley Experience (MOVE), a unique first-year experience program that was developed to intentionally welcome new students to their campus community by having them participate in experiential activities and service projects in multiple locations.
“Dr. Shipp was impressive to everyone he met during the interview process,” said B.J. Reed, senior vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs. “We know he’s a good fit for our campus, and we’re glad to get him back to UNO."
In addition to his UNO master’s degree, Shipp earned his doctorate in educational leadership and administration from the University of the Pacific. His bachelor of arts degree in education came from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. For more information, call (402) 554-3502.
