Alpha Xi Delta to Host Autism Awareness Events

Omaha - Alpha Xi Delta to Host Autism Awareness Events Omaha - Alpha Xi Delta, a 62-year-old sorority at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), plans to spread Autism awareness across campus and the community during the month of April.

April is national Autism Awareness Month, with World Autism Awareness Day on Monday, April 2. To honor the event, Alpha Xi Delta will be wearing blue as well as passing out ribbons and facts about Autism around campus on April 11 for Autism Awareness Day.

During the month of April the women of Alpha Xi Delta will also hang a banner in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) to raise awareness for autism. They have asked the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building to keep their front entry lights blue for the duration of April as well.

Alpha Xi Delta will also hold a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt one day shy of Easter on April 7 in Elmwood Park. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 3:00 p.m. with activities prior to the beginning of the hunt. Children, up to the age of 9, are welcome to participate in the event, which is free of charge.

Faculty, administration, staff and students are encouraged to attend this event. Free will donations will be accepted, all benefitting Autism Speaks, their national philanthropy.

Directly following the Easter Egg Hunt, Alpha Xi Delta will be having a Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Sapp Field House on UNO’s campus. The dinner, complete with drink, can be purchased for $4 for children, or $6 for adults. Raffle prizes will also be available at this all-ages event.

On April 21, Alpha Xi Delta will also be hosting a 5/10 K run/walk, called “Step It Up,” in Zorinsky Park, 156th and F Streets. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the race beginning at 10 a.m. Registration information can be found on the Alpha Xi Delta website. Free will donations will be accepted, all benefitting Autism Speaks.
