Jazz Quintet to Perform at UNO on March 26

Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will host the Frank Basile Quintet on Monday, March 26.

The concert will be held in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom on the UNO campus starting at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $10 and available for purchase at the door.

The Frank Basile Quintet is lead by Omaha Central High School graduate, and UNO alumnus Frank Basile on baritone saxophone. Basile is joined by band mates Rob Scheps, tenor saxophone; Roger Wilder, piano; Bob Bowman, bass; and Ryan Lee, drums.

Prior to Monday’s concert, Basile will also be presenting a free master class at 3:00 p.m. in room 109 of UNO’s Strauss Performing Arts Center.

"We are very excited to welcome Frank back to Omaha and UNO,” said Peter Madsen, coordinator of jazz studies at UNO. “We are so proud of him for what he has accomplished musically, and we are thrilled that he will be sharing his talents with us at the master class and concert.”

Basile was born in Illinois in 1978, and grew up in Nebraska. His love of music began in grade school while he learned clarinet and alto saxophone.

Four years after first picking up an instrument, Basile discovered the baritone saxophone. His love of jazz music quickly flourished in high school, landing Basile in numerous bands and combos throughout Omaha. He later went on to attend UNO for one year, prior to attending the University of North Texas where he majored in jazz studies. After graduation, Basile moved to New York and was selected to be a member of the first jazz studies program at the Juilliard School.

He has played with the likes of Michael Bublé, The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Dennis Mackrell's Manhattan Symphony Jazz Orchestra and many others.
