KVNO Celebrates 40 Years on Omaha Airwaves with 2012 Spring Membership Drive

Omaha - Omaha’s award-winning radio station, Classical 90.7 KVNO kicks off its Spring Membership Drive at 6 a.m. March 19. The event runs through Friday, March 30 and has a fund-raising goal of $70,000. The primary goal of the drive is to increase membership, however it is also a celebration of 40 years of broadcasting, made possible in large measure by support from the listening community.

“This membership drive is proving to be one of the most exciting we have planned,” said Dana Buckingham, KVNO assistant general manager. “We believe our listeners will truly enjoy celebrating this milestone with KVNO, and we plan to offer a number of special premium items as our way of thanking supporters for their contributions.”

Classical 90.7 KVNO, which broadcasts from the heart of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) campus, is a public radio station that raises more than 50 percent of its annual operating revenue through community financial contributions.

"While raising funds is crucial, it is also important that we attract new members during our drives," said KVNO development director Kim Balkovec. "Membership drives illustrate how public radio works, and afford listeners a real-time opportunity to participate. We want to foster a sense of belonging in the community and pride in investment."

Classical 90.7 KVNO, serves and enriches the community through unique arts programming that enlightens, entertains and informs. The station provides invaluable educational opportunities for UNO students through training and employment in a professional environment. The station remains committed to involving an increasing number of listeners, to advancing the excellence and growth of the arts and to maximizing the value of its public service and outreach programs.
