UNO, North High Join Together With Goodwill for Service Learning Project

Omaha - Omaha North High Magnet School students will visit Goodwill Industries on Thursday, Feb. 16 as part of a semester-long P-16 (Preschool through College) service learning project.

Throughout the semester, University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) Service Learning Academy, UNO public relations students, North High textile students and Goodwill have been working together to organize a refashioned fashion show, to be held at UNO's Milo Bail Student Center on Friday, March 9. Thursday's visit to Goodwill, 4805 N. 72nd St., will allow the nonprofit organization to provide a presentation on thier mission and history.

As part of their visit, the North High students will design a window display for the Goodwill location.

The goal of this project is to apply the concepts of sustainability in clothing and design in partnership with a local nonprofit agency. Members of local high school textile classes and their families are invited to participate in the March 9 fashion show.

The Service Learning Academy P-16 Initiative facilitates partnerships between the university and K-12 schools with the purpose of connecting curriculum to community needs through the development of academic service learning experiences.

The Service Learning Academy at UNO works in partnership with Building Bright Futures in an effort to improve academic performance, raise graduation rates, increase civic and community responsibility and ensure all students are prepared for post-secondary education.
