UNO Orchestra to Join Rock Icons Kansas for Concert March 17
Omaha - America’s legendary progressive rock band, Kansas, will be joining students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) Heartland Philharmonic, for a soaring, multi-media concert at the Holland Performing Arts Center to help raise funds for college and university music programs.
The Kansas Symphony Rocks! Tour, featuring classic rock standards like “Point of Know Return,” “Carry On Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind” and a sampling from each album in the the band's discography, comes to the Omaha Holland Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 17, at 8 p.m. The UNO Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra features the talents of student musicians from UNO, local professionals and several exceptional students from the Millard Public Schools district.
The tour was inspired, in part, by the band's recent 35-year anniversary concert, which was held with a full symphony in the band's hometown of Topea, Kan.
Kansas was founded in 1974 and has toured almost continuously since that time, still playing to large and enthusiastic audiences at major arenas and outdoor amphitheaters with fellow rock legends Styx, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and others. The band most recently played a free concert in Memorial Park, across from the UNO campus, in 2010 with contemporaries Foreigner and Styx as part of the Bank of the West Celebrates America concert series.
Worldwide music products accessory manufacturer D’Addario & Company has joined Kansas as presenting sponsor for this tour.
Tickets to the Omaha concert are currently on sale and priced from $38 to $68, and may be purchased at Ticket Omaha, by phone at (402) 345.0606, or online at www.ticketomaha.com.
