MaverickPR to Sponsor Santa Paws Event Dec. 4

Omaha - Pet lovers are invited to bring their furry friends to the Bookworm in Countryside Village, 87th and Pacific Streets, on Sunday, Dec. 4, from noon to 3 p.m. to get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus – all for a worthy cause.

Proceeds from the Santa Paws event will go to the Hearts United for Animals animal shelter. Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization dedicated to the relief of suffering. Their major areas of effort are to end overpopulation of domestic animals and the suffering of dogs in large breeding establishments. Hearts United for Animals is a 501(c)(3) organization that receives no government funding and exists solely on donations and the all-volunteer staff.

The annual event is sponsored by MaverickPR, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). For the past six years students have planned the event and donated the proceeds to a different local animal shelter or rescue group.

“Our students especially look forward to this event each year because they love working with animals and are very supportive of the work a shelter like Hearts United does to save them,” said Karen Weber, PRSSA faculty adviser.

Special “elves” will distribute free pet and people goodie bags. For $15, pet owners will receive a CD of their photo with Santa. For more information, contact Kelsie Olson at kelsielynnolson@gmail.com or (308) 850.0697, or visit www.maverickprssa.com.

MaverickPR, the University of Nebraska at Omaha chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA), offers students interested in public relations opportunities in professional development and community and university service. One of the most active student organizations on campus, the UNO Student Organizations Leadership and Programming (SOLP) named PRSSA its Outstanding Student Organization in 2010-2011. UNO PRSSA also earned the F. H. Teahan National PRSSA Award for Outstanding Chapter in 2009 and Outstanding University Service in 2010.
