Maverick Production Presents Cancer Benefit Concert Nov. 4
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) Maverick Productions presents "Rock away Cancer," a benefit concert supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and breast cancer awareness, Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Sokol Undergound from 7 p.m. - 12 a.m. Performances will include Bad City, Lansdowne, Blackberry Wednesday, 3 Day Meat Sale and special guest, American Idol’s Bo Bice.
Maverick Productions is working with Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Women’s Resource Center, GSO, Courtyard Ink and Zeta Tau Alpha for this event. All attendees are encouraged to take part in a raffle and silent auction throughout the night; prizes include gift certificates from several local businesses. Raffle tickets will be $1 each.
Bad City is a Chicago-based band signed to Atlantic Records. In 2010, they released their debut album, “Welcome to the Wasteland.” The band has toured with iconic rock group KISS, and was picked first for the first annual KISS Kruise.
Lansdowne is an unsigned act from Boston. They have played for troops in Afghanistan as well as shows with Saving Abel. Their debut album, “Blue Collar Revolver” was on multiple Billboard charts. This fall, Lansdowne will be on tour with Puddle of Mudd.
Blackberry Wednesday is a Memphis-based band with a blended sound of pop, rock and soul. Their debut album, “Start Again” released in early 2010.
3 Day Meat Sale is an original power-rock band from Omaha. Since forming in 1998, they have released three albums: “You Can’t Beat the Meat,” “When Pigs Fly” and “Fish Ham.”
Bo Bice’s initial claim to fame came in 2005, when he finished 2nd to Carrie Underwood on FOX's American Idol. His first release following that show, “The Real Thing,” yielded the chart-topping single "Inside Your Heaven" and helped Bice attain the first of his two gold record awards. Bo released his third album, “3,” in May 2010.
This is an all ages show. Admission is free for UNO students with their MavCard and $5 at the door for the the general public.
