UNO Offers Second IT Academy for Professional Development

Omaha - IT professionals are invited to attend the October 2011 IT Professional Development Academy hosted by the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).

During the inaugural IT Academy this past August, 75 IT professionals from Omaha’s business community attended various sessions across a two day period.

Participants commented: "The session content holds real value for my every-day work environment" and "I am looking forward to attending the next IT Academy."

The October event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13, and Friday, Oct. 14, at the University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute, 1110 S. 67th St.

The IT Academy leverages the intellectual expertise available at the university to offer high quality, affordable, locally accessible, cutting edge IT education and training in key topics of interest to local professionals.

Academy sessions combine current research with problems of practical interest to IT professionals. Each session includes specific learning outcomes that encompass some theory, problem-solving activities, and/or in-class hands-on practical experience.

Topics for the upcoming sessions include:
• Cloud Computing Security
• Software Development with Product Lines
• HTML 5
• Parallel Programming
• User Interface Usability Evaluation
• Software Vulnerabilities
• Managing New & Emerging Technologies

IT Academy sessions are held quarterly covering new and emerging topics that are important to IT community. Some sessions from past academies are repeated, depending on their popularity. Faculty and staff from the College of Information Science and Technology lead the sessions.
