Student Firm Rebrands to MaverickPR
Omaha - Maverick Solutions, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) student-run public relations firm, has rebranded to MaverickPR.
MaverickPR is the name of the UNO chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) sponsored by the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media and the School of Communication.
“Having a separate name for the chapter and the firm became confusing not only for our campus and community clients but to our faculty and students,” said Karen Weber, faculty adviser to both the chapter and the firm. “Since the student firm is one of the PRSSA nationally affiliated firms, it made sense to keep a single identity.”
In addition, most of the chapter’s executive board members are also members of the student firm. In many projects and campaigns, the firm staff and chapter volunteers work together on such campaigns as ConAgra Foods’ Child Hunger Ends Here in 2010, which raised $5,000 for Food Bank for the Heartland, Weber said.
The student firm, founded in 2007, serves a variety of campus and community clients providing public relations, advertising and marketing services such as branding, event planning and social and traditional media strategy. All fees are directed to a campus account and used for professional development, travel, competitions and service projects.
The name change has come after years of being mislabeled and unrecognized by students and potential clients.
“Separate names created a brand deficiency for our firm, which made it hard for clients and students to recognize who we were,” said Summer Broderick, firm director. “We shouldn’t have to explain how we are related to MaverickPR. By keeping our names consistent and simple, this will strengthen not only our brand but our business as well.”

MaverickPR, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA), offers students interested in public relations opportunities in professional development and community and university service.
