Local, Statewide Census Data is Focus of Aug. 16 Conference at UNO and on Webcast

Omaha - The Center for Public Affairs Research (CPAR) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will host the 22nd annual Nebraska Data Conference on Tuesday, Aug. 16. The conference is open to the public.

Seven regional researchers and a special presenter from the Census Bureau in Washington, DC, will discuss state and local data trends, including:

• A complete 2010 U.S. Census update;
• Statistics on aging and implications of an aging population;
• The latest on the housing market, home construction, and household trends;
• Census of Governments information on schooling, pension plans, state budgets and revenue forecasts; and
• Why Nebraska’s economy and employment are relatively strong, if it will continue and what that means regarding population change.

The conference will feature a main session updating the latest data products, six topic specific break-out sessions and a closing presentation on demographic trends.

“The annual data conference provides valuable information for those working in education, health care, state or local government, nonprofit work and research,” said David Drozd, CPAR research coordinator. “So much new information has been released recently and more data will be coming out in the next few months, so conference participants will be ahead of the pack in understanding and utilizing it.”

The conference runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at UNO’s College of Public Affairs and Community Service Building, which is southeast of the UNO bell tower. Free parking is available on the UNO campus and in the UNO parking structures.

The conference also will be webcast for the first time, providing anyone from across the state or nation the opportunity to attend using their own computer.

The cost is $60 for attendees who register by Tuesday, Aug. 9, or $70 thereafter.
