Flood Relief Workshop for Local Businesses is July 27 at UNO

Omaha - Nebraska and Iowa business owners, county, city and state officials who have been impacted by the recent flooding – and those businesses that can offer support to flood victims in Nebraska and Iowa – are encouraged to attend a free workshop on Wednesday, July 27, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).

The seminar on flood recovery contracting and subcontracting runs from 9 a.m. to noon at UNO's Thompson Alumni Center, 6705 Dodge St.

The workshop will offer more information on the following:
• Special requirements and restrictions placed on federal, state and local agencies contracting during disaster situations;
• Local services sought by agencies and businesses for flood recovery;
• How to prepare a successful bid on flood restoration projects such as clean up, construction, waste disposal and infrastructure repair; and
• Free contracting and subcontracting support services provided by Nebraska and Iowa procurement assistance programs.

Earlier this year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated the Nebraska Business Development Center – a department of UNO’s College of Business Administration – the contact in Nebraska for businesses seeking contracts to provide services for flood recovery.

The July 27 seminar is hosted by the Nebraska Business Development Center and the Center of Industrial Research and Service, a unit of Iowa State University.

Attendees are required to register for the workshop.

Companies and small business owners who wish to attend must be registered on the Central Contract Registry, a federal database. Nebraska businesses not on the registry should contact the Nebraska Business Development Center prior to July 27 by calling (402) 554-6253.
