UNO Launches IT Academy for Local IT Professionals, Managers

Omaha - Local IT professionals are invited to attend a quarterly series of professional development seminars hosted by the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).

The first sessions are Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13, at the University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute, 1110 S. 67th St.

For morning sessions, breakfast is served during registration from 7 to 8 a.m. Morning sessions run from 8 a.m. to noon.

Lunch is served at noon, with afternoon sessions running from 1 to 5 p.m.

The academy will be held every quarter and include some repeated sessions and new and emerging topics of relevance to the IT community. Faculty and staff from the College of Information Science and Technology will lead the seminars.

The new IT Academy is designed to leverage the intellectual expertise available at the university to offer high quality, affordable, locally accessible, cutting edge IT education and training in key topics of interest to local professionals.

Topics may include areas such as the following:
• project management;
• software engineering;
• mobile application development;
• virtual teams;
• virtual project management;
• IT leadership;
• information architecture;
• grid computing;
• cloud computing; and
• information security/assurance.

The sessions combine current research with problems of practical interest to IT professionals. Each session is designed to include specific learning outcomes that encompass some theory, problem-solving activities and/or in-class hands-on practical experience.
