McQueen to Curate Latest Student Art Exhibition, Reception is Feb. 18

Omaha - Omaha curator Brigitte McQueen will select works by University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) undergraduate studio art majors for the Spring 2011 Annual Juried Student Exhibition. More than 30 full-time students will be represented in the show, which opens with a free public reception Friday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the UNO Art Gallery.

McQueen has been curator of the Underground Gallery at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and owner of Pulp Gallery in the Old Market. Currently she is establishing a new non-profit that will work to strengthen the creative culture of Omaha by providing services to local artists.

The Juried Student Exhibition showcases the many areas of concentration available through UNO’s Department of Art and Art History Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts programs.

Gallery visitors will be treated to recent works in both emerging and traditional media including book arts, ceramics, drawing, graphic design, intermedia, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. The competitive exhibition also provides a forum for awarding the Bertha Mengedoht Hatz Memorial Scholarships, which will be presented during the Feb. 18 reception.

The exhibition continues through Thursday, March 17.

The UNO Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Weber Fine Arts Building on the UNO campus, 6001 Dodge St. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. In addition, appointments at other times are encouraged.

All events are free and open to the public, and the gallery is accessible to people with disabilities. Call (402) 554-2796 to arrange an appointment or for special assistance.
