Career Center Offers Feb. 14 Financial Fair for Students
Omaha - The average college graduate owes about $19,000 in student loan debt, according to a recent USA Today report.
To help college students better their financial future, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Career Center will host an open house to educate students about their finances on Monday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Nebraska Room of the Milo Bail Student Center.
“Students need to learn how to successfully navigate this market so they can make financial decisions that will positively affect their personal and professional future,” said Michelle Perone, Career Center director.
The open house, “Plug into Your Financial Future,” will consist of five different stations staffed by local financial advisers available to visit with and answer questions from students one-on-one and in small groups.
The five stations will focus on how to:
• Plan a budget
• Start a savings plan
• Avoid credit card debt
• Manage student loans
• Learn to invest
“It's important for students to gain insight on how to plan a budget, start a savings plan, avoid credit card debt and invest before they get that first job after college,” Perone said.
Free sack lunches and swag will be given to the first 100 students who attend.
A team from Maverick Solutions, the UNO student-run public relations firm, has partnered with the Career Center on this event as part of its financial education campaign sponsored by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
