Santa Paws Fundraiser is Dec. 5 at the Bookworm

Omaha - Pet lovers can bring their furry friends to the Bookworm, 87th and Pacific Streets, on Sunday, Dec. 5, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. to get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus – all for a good cause.

Proceeds from the Santa Paws event will go to the Town and Country Humane Society animal shelter. Town and Country Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill shelter dedicated to safe and caring living conditions for all animals. They receive no government funding and exist solely on donations and the all-volunteer staff.

The annual event is sponsored by MaverickPR, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

For the past five years students have planned the event and donated the proceeds to a different local animal shelter or rescue group.

“We appreciate the partnership with the Bookworm in letting us hold Santa Paws at the book store each year. This is an event the students love because they get to play with the animals and they know the money will be put to good use,” said Karen Weber, faculty adviser.

Chris Allen, associate professor in the School of Communication, and his wife, Elaine, will reprise their roles as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Special “elves” will distribute free pet and people goodie bags. For $15, pet owners will receive a print copy of their photo with Santa and a CD.
