Sept. 30 Fashion Show to Bring Awareness to Drinking and Driving

Omaha - On Thursday, Sept. 30, the Holiday Inn at 72nd and Grover Streets will be transformed into a fashion runway for Fashion Victim.

Now in its second year, Fashion Victim is a fashion show designed to raise funds for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) in Nebraska and educate the community about drinking and driving. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.

Slated to attend the event are: Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman; Sally Ganem, the First Lady of Nebraska; Gary Cooper, MADD/RAD race car owner; and Simera Reynolds, MADD Nebraska director.

The night’s more than 40 fashion models are UNO students and professional models.

Fashion Victim is held in memory of Morgan Hohnbaum and Josh Milana, two of Wieczorek’s friends who died after being hit by a drunk driver in Lincoln in 2007.

The fundraiser is the brainchild of Amy Wieczorek, a community health major at UNO who is also a fashion model. As the Miss Nebraska ANTSO titleholder, drinking and driving prevention and awareness is Wieczorek’s platform. Since the death of her friends, Wieczorek has been determined to make a difference. At ANTSO Nationals in July, Wieczorek was the first Nebraska Miss titleholder to place in the Top 10 based on her platform, and brought national attention to the issues in Omaha.

Event sponsors include MADD Nebraska and UNO Midnight Mojo, an anti-drinking campaign for students.

UNO students can take free shuttles from the Maverick Village and Scott Village on-campus housing communities to the Holiday Inn.

The night’s fashions will be provided by: Jane Round, Shamina, Dan Richter, Angela Poor, Daniel Munez, Rasheena and other designers.

All funds raised will be donated to MADD Nebraska in honor of Hohnbaum and Milana.

For more information or to reserve free seats to the event, visit www.fashionvictimshow.com or call Wieczorek at (308) 383-5050.
