Students Will Benefit From UNO-Local Business Partnership on foursquare
Omaha - Students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) can receive special discounts at area restaurants and entertainment venues just by “checking in.”
Through a new partnership with local businesses using the social network foursquare – a geo-location social media application that’s quickly gone global – UNO has secured a number of discounts on food, beverages and entertainment options for its students.
UNO students simply need to download and install the free foursquare application on their smart phones, or use foursquare via text message or a mobile web browser. By creating an account with foursquare, students are then able to “check in” upon arrival at a number of local businesses. These businesses will offer specials and discounts to the students, the details of which will be displayed on their cell phones upon checking in.
Students are encouraged to visit www.uno4sq.com to learn more about the project. To receive the specials and discounts, students must “check-in” at the business via their cell phones or laptops and show their UNO student I.D.
“The new project is designed to encourage students to explore social options with friends that don’t include alcohol,” said Nate Bock, staff member at the UNO Counseling Center and director of UkNOw Choices, UNO's comprehensive program to reduce high risk drinking.
While the program aims to help students choose venues that are alcohol-free, its mission is to also have students explore the city and find places to socialize, without the influence of alcohol.
Some businesses that are offering foursquare specials are near UNO, including Jones Bros. Cupcakes at Aksarben Village, and Crane Coffee at 60th and Center Streets.
Local businesses that have agreed to participate in the UNO foursquare program are as follows:
Aromas Coffeehouse, 1033 Jones St.
Crane Coffee, 5923 Center St.
eCreamery, 5001 Underwood Ave.
Film Streams, 1340 Webster St.
Jones Bros. Cupcakes, 2121 S. 67th St.
Juice Stop, 2119 S. 67th St.
Orsi’s Pizza and Bakery, 621 Pacific St.
