UNO Commencement May 7 at the Civic

Omaha - More than 1,300 students will graduate Friday, May 7, during the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) spring commencement ceremony. The event will begin at 2 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Ave.

Individuals who will be honored during the ceremony include:

Student Commencement Speaker: John Treinen
Treinen, a Ralston native, will present the student commencement address.  He graduates magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a major in marketing and minors in management and graphic design.  Treinen will begin working full-time at TD AMERITRADE after commencement and hopes to also expand on his freelance graphic design work.

Chancellor's Medal: Neal Grandgennet
Grandgennet, professor of education in the UNO College of Education, will receive the Chancellor's Medal.  He joined the UNO Department of Teacher Education in 1989 and has garnered more than $4 million in external funding since then as a frequent grant writer and collaborator.  Grandgennet is a current co-investigator on two educational robotics projects funded by the National Science Foundation and is a software review editor for the international Mathematics and Computer Education Journal.

Alumnus Achievement Award: J. Terrence Haney
Haney earned both of his degrees from UNO - a bachelor of general studies degree in 1991 and a master's degree in gerontology in 1998.  He retired in 1999 as chief executive officer and principal owner of Insurance Consultants and PayFlex Systems USA.  Founded in 1964, Insurance Consultants is one of the nation's top 10 third party administrators working with employers to administer benefit spending accounts, COBRA and Transit programs.  Haney has established an endowed faculty position at UNO, as well as several funds and scholarships.
