‘Just Can It!’ Fundraiser Returns to Crossroads Mall April 19
Omaha - The Salvation Army in Omaha has again partnered with University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Greek students to raise awareness about homelessness in Omaha.
Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta sorority will participate in the seventh annual “Just Can It!” event Monday, April 19 through Friday, April 23. The students will sleep outside in cardboard boxes at the Crossroads Mall parking lot to raise awareness about homelessness.
A kick-off event is planned for noon on Monday, April 19 at the Crossroads Mall parking lot. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle and UNO Chancellor John Christensen will attend.
All UNO students are encouraged to collect monetary and food donations throughout the week for the Salvation Army. Donations can be dropped off anytime at the Crossroads Mall parking lot that week.
“This event is a great opportunity to provide a much-needed service to the Salvation Army Food Pantry during these tough economic times,” said Aaron Brown, event organizer.
The Feinstein Foundation has hosted a donor match for the Salvation Army in April. The more donations the Salvation Army receives through the “Just Can It!” event, the closer the Salvation Army will get to receiving $1 million from the Feinstein Foundation.
In 2009, Pi Kappa Alpha collected more than 17,000 food items for the Salvation Army. This year’s goal is 20,000 canned food items.
Contact Aaron Brown, Pi Kappa Alpha, for more information: (402) 210-9002.
Event sponsors include Mayflower, Super Mover Center, SAM Store and Move, No Frills Supermarkets, Tenaska Business Park and Bellevue University.
Customers of No Frills Supermarkets can round up their purchases Wednesday, April 23 through Tuesday, May 4. All dollars raised will be donated to the Salvation Army.
