'Rave On!' Star to Perform at April 12 Fundraiser
Omaha - Billy McGuigan, a University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) alumnus and nationally-recognized actor, singer and musician based in Omaha, will perform a benefit show for a UNO alumna at the Omaha Community Playhouse on Monday, April 12.
The 8 p.m. performance, titled “Billy’s Birthday Bash for Lara,” is to raise money for Lara Marsh’s transplant-related expenses and to celebrate Marsh’s 40th birthday – a milestone for anyone living with cystic fibrosis.
Marsh, a graduate of the UNO Department of Theatre, is in need of a life-saving double-lung transplant due to cystic fibrosis, which she has lived with since childhood. Volunteers are helping to raise the $100,000 needed for expenses not covered by insurance. Double-lung transplant costs often exceed $500,000.
Proceeds from McGuigan’s benefit performance will be applied to Marsh’s Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) account to be used toward transplant-related expenses.
McGuigan will perform in the Howard Drew Theatre at the OCP, 6915 Cass St. A birthday reception will be held before the 8 p.m. performance, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
General admission tickets for the performance are $50. VIP tickets are available for $100, which includes reserved seating and a private reception with McGuigan from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.aBreathofFreshArt.com or by calling (402) 917-4366.
McGuigan performs in the style of several rock legends, but is best known for his interpretation of Buddy Holly in his show “Rave On!” McGuigan is currently working on several new music projects: “Rock Show” (the music of Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Buddy Holly), “Yoko’s Fault” (the music of the Beatles), “Me2” (the U2 experience) and a new stage show, “Yesterday and Today.” McGuigan maintains a busy schedule acting in industrial films, commercials and doing voice-over work.
The Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity based in Bloomington, Ind., that is dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients. To learn more about Marsh or to make a donation through COTA, visit www.cotaforlaram.com.
