College of IS&T to Offer Expanded IT Workshops for Middle, High School Students

Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) College of Information Science and Technology will again offer its Summer Information Technology (IT) Workshops.

Due to the large interest in these workshops, the college has expanded its workshop offerings. Nearly two dozen workshops will be offered this year on a diverse set of IT topics including digital music synthesis, robotics, cybersecurity, grid computing, Second Life, flash, Adobe Photoshop, 3D modeling, exploring DNA with computers, securing computers, and building Web applications.

The workshops also expose students, ages 11 through 17, to emerging interdisciplinary IT areas such as cloud computing, bioinformatics, IT innovation and information assurance. The first workshops begin June 7.

The College of Information Science and Technology (IS&T) at UNO is now in its 12th year of existence. The college’s overarching philosophy is exemplified by the following value statement: "No student will go unassisted or unchallenged."

The college, located at the University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute, is focused on reaching the next level of information technology innovation through collaboration. The college’s students are in great demand by prospective employers.

The college offers five undergraduate degree programs and four graduate degree programs: BS and MS in Computer Science, BS in Bioinformatics, BS in Information Assurance, BS and MS in Management Information Systems, MS and PhD in Bioinformatics (programs through UNMC), and a PhD in Information Technology.
