UNO Music Professor Receives Distinguished Service Award
Omaha - James Saker, professor of music and director of University Bands at the
University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), recently received the 2009-2010
Distinguished Service Award from the Board of the Nebraska Music Educators
Association at the organization's annual meeting in Lincoln.
Saker served in a variety of roles with the association, including
College/University Affairs Chair. He also served a term in the president's rotation from 1985 to
1991. During his presidency, Saker
was responsible for the planning and coordination of two annual professional
conferences; proposed the development of the Executive Director position,
implemented in 1991; developed the Music Mentor Program for young music
educators; and initiated the Music Scholarship Program for students seeking a
career in the profession. He
currently is a member of the Past Presidents committee, serving on the board of
the Hall of Fame program.
