Neighborhood Center to Receive 2009 MAPA Award
Omaha - The Neighborhood Center, a community-based, neighborhood-driven organization administered by the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), will be recognized Wednesday, Oct. 14, for its positive influence throughout the metropolitan area. The center will receive the 2009 Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) Regional Service Award at the annual MAPA dinner in Blair, Neb.
A selection committee chose to honor the center based on nominations highlighting its efforts to train more than 220 neighborhood associations and civic groups and provide guidance on numerous special initiatives. For almost a decade, the center has offered assistance to residents in a tri-county area, enabling them to address issues affecting the quality of life in their communities.
For more information, contact Ronald Abdouch, executive director of the Neighborhood Center, at (402) 561-7582. For details on the Neighborhood Center, visit http://www.unomaha.edu/ncenter/index.php.
