KVNO to Host Tailgate Party for Mavericks

Omaha - KVNO Classical 90.7 will hold a tailgate party Thursday, Aug. 27, to help launch its new partnership with University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) sporting events.

The KVNO “Classical Kickoff” begins at 5 p.m. in the northwest corner of the University Drive East parking structure. The event will feature free food and giveaways. KVNO officially becomes the home-and-away voice for UNO football with the 7 p.m. broadcast of the Mavericks-East Central University game at Al F. Caniglia Field.

“We are excited for this collaboration with UNO Athletics and want to thank our listeners for their support, as well as invite Maverick fans to learn about what KVNO has to offer,” said Dr. Robert Franklin, director of media operations. “This is a win-win situation.”

KVNO will air all UNO football and hockey games and a majority of men’s and women’s basketball. When basketball games conflict with hockey, the basketball games will air on KVNO’s new digital channel, KVNO HD2 (90.7-2). The digital station, MAV radio, will begin broadcasting on Sept. 9. Listeners will need a digital radio to pick up the signal over the air. All games will be streamed live on KVNO’s Web site at www.kvno.org and at the UNO Athletics’ Web site at www.omavs.com.

Broadcasting on KVNO will save UNO Athletics about $8,000 annually and provide a unified base of operation for Maverick sporting events previously broadcast on different local AM radio stations.

“We look forward to partnering with KVNO to bring UNO athletic events to a broader audience and further our mission of UNO as Omaha’s team,” said Trev Alberts, UNO director of athletics. “We also hope to grow our audience by inviting regular KVNO listeners to tune into Maverick athletics."

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The celebration recognizes the partnership among the City of Omaha, its citizens and UNO to build a vibrant and dynamic community. The centennial theme is UNO: Central To Our City Since 1908. This theme acknowledges the past contributions of UNO to the community and sets the stage for great things to come. UNO, inaugurated in 1968, emerged from the Municipal University of Omaha, established in 1931, which grew out of the University of Omaha founded in 1908.
