Volunteers Sought for Seventh Annual Seven Days of Service
Omaha - University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) student and faculty volunteers are needed for the Seventh Annual Seven Days of Service event, which will be held during UNO’s Spring Break, March 14 and 16 through 21.
At least 800 UNO student and faculty volunteers are wanted to partner with local high schools, businesses, alumni and other community organizations.
This year, volunteers will work with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs, the Salvation Army, Stephen’s Center, and the Fair Deal Café to renovate homes, refurbish playgrounds, build storage areas and improve the community through general landscaping, painting and clean-up projects.
“This year’s theme is ‘Engaged in our Community’,” said Dr. Kathleen Oleson Lyons, assistant director of UNO's Service-Learning Academy. “The theme speaks to the university’s mission and the importance of making a difference through involvement and engagement.”
To register to volunteer or to learn more, visit www.unomaha.edu/slareg or contact the Service-Learning Academy at (402) 554-6019.
UNO is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The celebration recognizes the partnership among the City of Omaha, its citizens and UNO to build a vibrant and dynamic community. The centennial theme is “UNO: Central To Our City Since 1908.” This theme acknowledges the past contributions of UNO to the community and sets the stage for great things to come.
UNO, inaugurated in 1968, emerged from the Municipal University of Omaha, established in 1931, which grew out of the University of Omaha founded in 1908. For Centennial information, go to http://www.unomaha.edu/100/.
