UNO Commencement Dec. 19 at the Civic
Omaha - More than 920 students will graduate Friday, Dec. 19, during the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) winter commencement ceremony. The event begins at 2 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Ave.
Janey Strobel, an Omaha native, will present the student commencement address. She graduates summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Next fall, she plans to attend graduate school to pursue a master of fine arts in poetry.
John Jeter will receive the Alumnus Achievement Award. He became a partner at Arthur Andersen and Co. in 1967 and served in a variety of capacities in the Omaha, Dallas and Denver offices before retiring in 1991. In 1994, he was elected to the Tucson Electric Power Company's board of directors and served on the board of UniSource Energy Corporation from 1998 until his retirement in 2001. Instrumental to the 2006 expansion and renovation of the UNO Alumni Association's William H. and Dorothy Thompson Alumni Center, Jeter spearheaded funding for a new event space, the Arthur Andersen Hospitality Room.

The centennial theme is "UNO: Central To Our City Since 1908." This theme acknowledges the past contributions of UNO to the community and sets the stage for great things to come.
UNO, inaugurated in 1968, emerged from the Municipal University of Omaha, established in 1931, which grew out of the University of Omaha founded in 1908. For Centennial information, log on to http://www.uno100.org.
